Move! is an interactive sculpture that is triggered by metal detectors. It is a direct response to the invasive nature of airport security checkpoints, specifically for individuals with artificial joints. By customizing the design and performance for only those with artificial joints, Move! changes the metal detecting procedure from a punishment into a reward.
Move! consists of a podium that holds one metal detector, placed at the average knee height (based on studies of the general U.S. population), and a 4-foot wide wall-mounted paper sculpture. When the metal detector is triggered, it send a signal (via microprocessor) to the various motors attached to the sculpture to create a progression of movements. Each installation of Move! features a unique series of paper folds.
