It's always easier to say "No, I can't" instead of "Yes, I will try something new and scary and challenging today." These (de)merit badges represent the silly---and not-so-silly---excuses I've used myself or heard from my closest friends, such as "I don't have anything to wear," "Sorry, I have too many errands to do today" or "but girls can't do that."
